South Solitary Island Terms & Conditions

 Walking Tours of South Solitary Island are a physical activity.


Precision Helicopters and NSW National Parks & Wildlife (Department of Planning, Industry and Environment ) asks customers not to do this walking tour if their health and safety, or that of other visitors and staff, would be put at risk by them taking part.  Safety is, and always will be, our number one priority for all of our passengers, visitors and staff.

A good level of fitness and mobility is required.

You need to be able to get in and out of a helicopter unassisted. 

 The first step is 45cm and the second step is 40cm.  You need to have good strength in your legs to push up and your arms to pull up.

Terms and Conditions - Please Review Carefully

  1. Helicopter seating – similar rules and regulations as exit row seating on a passenger aircraft (eg Qantas, Virgin Australia)
  2. You must:
    be willing to assist in the unlikely event of an emergency;
    be able to understand and carry out instructions.
    be physically able to reach, open and slide/push an emergency exit door up to ten (10) kgs
  3. You will be walking and on your feet for the entire tour.  There are no areas to sit down.
  4. Premium – 2 hour tour is approximately 2.05km in total distance. Moderate slope for 100 metres (each way) and another Moderate/Steep slope for 200 metres (each way).
  5. Climbing - 96 stairs in the lighthouse, it is narrow and single file.
  6. If you can climb 3 flights of stairs in one ascent in a timely manner without assistance your fitness will be adequate.
  7. The ground on the walking tour is uneven, there are several steps and no areas to sit down.  You must be able to keep up with your group tour.
  8. There are toilets at departure and a toilet on the island.
  9. There is no drinking water available on the island – please take your own.
  10. No food to be taken onto the island and only water may be taken, please do not leave rubbish on the island.
  11. Safety briefing given in English – you need to be able to understand the safety briefing and be able to follow emergency procedures.  Flight attendants/stewards are not in the helicopter. Precision Helicopters staff will be coordinating safety around both helicopters and it is important that you follow their instructions at all times.
  12. Weight Considerations – please advise us of your weight, this is for weight and balance limitations of the helicopter and for passenger comfort.
  13. Sturdy, flat footwear must be worn.  No thongs, slip on sandals or inappropriate footwear.
  14. Children must be at least 5 years old.
  15. Ticket/seat can be transferred to another person – please notify us with name change ASAP.
  16. You will be refused carriage and no refunds given if:
    You arrive late and miss your helicopter safety briefing, you will not be allowed to fly.
    You cannot understand the safety briefing and follow safety instructions.
    You are drunk or under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you will not be allowed to fly.
    You are wearing thongs / slip on sandals or inappropriate footwear.
    You cannot walk 20 metres in 5 minutes from the check-in point to the helicopter departure point.
    Your fitness and health is deemed tentative and poses a risk to yourself or staff.
    You cannot enter or exit the helicopter unassisted.
  17. No refunds given unless tour cancelled by Precision Helicopters or NPWS.  Credit card fees will not be refunded.
  18. Tour may be rescheduled to alternate time (you must be available for the full day) / day if weather delays your booked tour, please ensure a contact phone number is provided for that day.
  19. Commercial Photography: If you are interested in a tour of South Solitary Island for the purpose of commercial filming or photography, you need to complete a NPWS filming or photography application.
  20. Commercial filming and photography means any filming or photography principally intended for public viewing which may or may not be undertaken for financial gain. Commercial filming includes advertisements, feature films, TV drama, documentaries, educational films, Government sponsored filming and tourism promotions.
  21. Commercial photography includes images for magazines, postcards, promotional material, books and advertisements and the commercial photography of private events.
